About Us

Welcome to Canterbury District Green Party

Welcome to the Canterbury District Green Party website. We campaign in Canterbury, Whitstable, Herne Bay and the villages around on a variety of issues and initiatives that we believe would make this a more pleasant, prosperous and sustainable place in which to live and work. Our local Green Party is currently, or has been, involved in a large number of local campaigns, including:

  • Lobbying for the pedestrianisation of parts of Whitstable and a reduction of traffic going through the town
  • Opposing the extension of the Wincheap Park & Ride onto the water meadows
  • Plastic-Free movements all over the District
  • Tree felling in a number of planned developments and local parks
  • Canterbury Station Road West multi-storey car park – petition and protest campaign
  • Lobbying for town councils for Canterbury, Whitstable & Herne Bay
  • Objections to constituency boundary changes
  • Protesting plans to close acute wards at K&C Hospital
  • Pressing for more recycling provision in the District
  • Lobbying for multi-compartment bins on the high streets
  • Turn Your Key (asking drivers to turn off their engines while waiting at a level crossing)
  • Canterbury Clean Air
  • Homelessness – petition on permanent shelter in Canterbury
  • Whitstable Spar supermarket – gifting food past its sell-by date to casserole club for pensioners in need

The Green Party is growing fast. We now represent people in Westminster and in a record number of local councils, as well as in the London Assembly.

In Canterbury and Whitstable we are currently working to elect our first Green Councillors to add that much needed voice to the Council chamber to address the critical issues that the older parties are not even discussing.

We rely on people power rather than corporate finance in all that we do.  Get involved with us today so that we can achieve so much more for Canterbury.

The Green Party Political Programme sets out what Greens are in politics to do: to end the system that keeps hurting the environment and all of us who rely on it - and to build a better alternative.

This Programme isn't like other parties' manifestos, it has not been squeezed through focus groups and stripped down according to the latest polling. Instead it has been built from policies proposed and voted on by our members, looking to secure the long term future of the places and people they love.

It's a vision of a better world, and together we can deliver it.
