Stuart Heaver was elected as Councillor for Gorrell ward (Whitstable) at the Canterbury City Council By-Election on 6th March with almost 50% of the vote.
The Green Party successfully defended this seat after the resignation of Green Party Councillor Steve Wheeler. This reflects the hard work that Steve and fellow Green Party Councillor, Clare Turnbull, put in for local residents in the Whitstable area.
Stuart has lived in Whitstable for nearly 20 years, and was one of the pioneers of the Green Party citizen science water-testing programme and the campaign against local sewage pollution. Stuart also fights against excessive luxury housing development in the area and is a member of the Save Brooklands Farm campaign. We look forward to Stuart continuing to work for the residents of Gorrell and holding Canterbury City Council to account.
Despite heavy campaigning from both the Labour Party and the Reform Party in Gorrell, nearly one in every two voters chose the progressive policies of the Green Party.

Nationally, the Green Party now hold over 800 seats in over 170 different councils – up massively from around 200 in 2018. More and more people are recognising that voting Green is your way of showing you believe a fairer, greener world is possible – and is worth fighting for.
