Your Whitstable councillors have been working hard to support residents whose lives have been negatively affected by property development. Councillor Clare Turnbull ‘called in’ the planning decision for 49 55 Canterbury Road, Whitstable, working with residents of Essex Street. Residents reported that the building was nothing like the original plans.
Councillor Steve Wheeler said “Thankfully, the planning committee voted in favour of the residents and an enforcement notice was issued to change the building.” The developers have lodged an appeal and your councillors are working with residents to get the right outcome.
Whitstable remains a target for developers. Plans for new housing on land south of the Thanet Way have been put before Canterbury Council’s planning committee. Clare and Steve joined numerous residents to speak against this application. “I cannot find a single person in favour of this development,” said Steve as he addressed the committee.
