Kent Online has recently reported that the Herne Bay coastline was once again off-limits due to combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharges from Southern Water. This comes following a previous article from The Guardian last year, stating raw sewage was dumped into English and Welsh coastlines ‘2,900 times’ in 2020.
Southern Water has made assurances that the most recent CSO discharges do not contain raw sewage but are rather made up of rain and wastewater from washing machines, showers and dishwashers. However, the leaks have left the coastline out of action for local residents and caused further damage to the local environment.
